A slight down turn today brought a few frowns. Both of Filly's fetlocks wanted to "pop" forward as she walked. During the night she had gotten both wraps & splints a little loose, which allowed too much play & not enough support for her legs. Tonight's splinting & wrapping session made sure that nothing could loosen. Filly also needs her cuffs back on for added support & to keep her hooves landing correctly. Fortunately Trimmer will be dropping the Adhere off tomorrow. Work has been started on trimming Filly's hind feet, which are getting heel high as a result of her contraction. Little by little, day by day she's getting a few rasp strokes to lower her heels. Because she hasn't been able to run & play on pasture, she hasn't kept her hooves worn down. Last night she even needed a little nipper work on her hinds. Hopefully soon she'll be able to live a normal foal's life with pasture footing working it's magic on her feet. Until then, CMK will continue to wield the rasp.
Grey Girl is still battling a bit of diarrhea. It's better than it was & now that Mommy Dearest is out of season, we expect GG to be back to normal within days. She sure is a feisty little girl. When CMK went to catch her to put Desitin on, she (GG not CMK) leaped in the air to avoid being caught. Don't ask how, but CMK's arm hooked out & it was a perfect catch. On went the Desitin. Once caught GG is a good girl. Catching her is the hard part. Hopefully Mommy Dearest will settle down soon so GG can learn that people are good.
The big concern for the upcoming weekend is Mama. The temperature is suppose to be over 100* for the next 5 days & Mama does not do well in the heat. Unfortunately for Filly, who loves being outside, she & Mama will most likely have to be stalled during the day to keep Mama out of the heat & sun as much as possible. The last time it was over 100* Mama suffered heat exhaustion & CMK had to sponge her with cold water to get her vitals to return to normal. It was very scary for a while. For Mama & Filly this is not going to be a good weekend. Everyone stay cool & wish for cooler weather.
